The Sonic Graffiti
In July 2009 Ginger brought together Billy Morrison, Scott Lipps and Michael Butler in Los Angeles to perform a predominantly Wildhearts heavy set under the guise ‘Ginger and Friends’. The band had two rehearsals (the last rehearsal was streamed live over the internet) before taking to the stage at the Viper Room on July 16th and El Rey on July 17th.
Following on from the success of their debut shows another show was booked for August 26th at the Viper Room featuring the same lineup, and included special guests Michael Lee Smith (from the band Starz) singing ‘Loveshit’ and Steve Stevens performing guitar on ‘Rebel Yell’ (with Billy Morrison on Vocals) and also performing lead guitar on the Wildheart’s ‘My Baby is a Headfuck’.
The sold out gig was streamed live on the internet, and notable names in attendance included Tre Cool, Steve Jones, Paul Cook, Duff McKagan & Mike Clink.
‘Mystery Number’ was written by the band following the last Viper Room show, and was recorded in LA over 3 days at Matt Sorums studio. It was produced by Mike Clink.
The track was donated to ‘The Haiti Project’ – a 16 track downloadable album set up by Gav McCaughey at Round Records to raise money for the victims of the Haiti disaster.
